The holidays are fast approaching!  It’s a time of increased busyness, distraction, anticipation, and often stress!  Given these realities, your default may be just not to meet; however, this approach misses a key opportunity to do something different.  Lead differently through the holiday season.

Plan Ahead.

Have the conversation now about what your plans are for this holiday season.  Having a clear expectation will help people prioritize and plan their schedules accordingly; and in so doing, will help reduce the stress they’re likely already anticipating.

Slow Down and Keep it Simple.

Don’t start a new long-term study in this season.  Look at using either stand-alone study content, or do a short advent study that doesn’t require a lot of homework or preparation.

Meet less frequently, if needed.  If you’re currently meeting weekly (recommended), what weeks do you plan not to meet?  What weeks might you do something different (like the ideas below) that you could do in place of your normal meeting format?  What outside gatherings or activities do you want to emphasize?

Be Generous.

Host a Christmas Party with a Purpose – Leverage a gathering you may already be planning for a greater impact.  Pick a cause/need and instruct people to bring items or funds.  Some examples:  Adopt-a-Family Love INC (deadline Nov. 18), City Union MissionHope Center Fall Fest (Oct. 31).  See other ideas here

Serve Together at PV Christmas Services – We want to create the best environment possible for guests at Christmas and there’s lots of ways to serve.  Look for specific needs and times coming out soon.

Include the Kids.

Look for ways to make this a family-friendly gathering.

  • Include them in serving together or generosity opportunities.
  • Do a meal together and intentionally include the kids in making a food item or dessert.
  • Plan an evening driving caravan to see Christmas lights and stop somewhere together for hot chocolate.

Don’t miss this Lead differently this holiday season!
